Key Colony Beach, Florida Keys Departing Key Colony Beach Marina and heading to Fort Lauderdale to complete some upgrades to LM. 2/1/99
2/1/99 Mon 27.5 4.3 6.4 Islamorada, Florida Keys Anchored off of Lorelei's. Had cocktails there and then had lunch at Islamorada Fish Company. Very pleasant, sunny day. 2/2/99
2/2/99 Tue 33.0 5.5 6.0 Barnes Sound, Florida Keys Anchored in Barnes Sound just inside of the Card Sound Bridge. Beautiful night for a barbeque. 2/3/99
2/3/99 Wed 56.0 9.0 6.2 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Tucked into Las Olas Marina. This will be home while I facilitate the Profiteers Performance Group at the Embassy Suites. 2/11/99
2/11/99 Thu 33.1 6.2 5.4 Key Biscayne, Florida Moored at the Rickenbacker Marina for the Miami Boat Show. The previous day we dropped one of our cars at the marina for transportation. 2/13/99
2/13/99 Sat 28.9 4.8 6.1 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Rented a dock behind a house on 13th street. Concrete and unfriendly, lost a spot of gelcoat. Rich Beers installed a new freezer so I can keep peace in the family.

Fri       Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Departed for West End Bahamas with Rob Stephenson of Catco and his girlfriend. Katreena not feeling well so I enlisted crew. 3/19/99
3/20/99 Sat 72.0 11.0 6.5 Old Bahama Bay, Grand Bahama The sail proved pleasant and uneventful and Rob slept the night through. Doug & Deb Garcia, Tim and Liz Manley had already arrived aboard Honey Moon. We cruised down to Freeport for lunch and then Rob and friend flew home.
3/21/99 Sun         Left LM secured and cruised to Florida with Doug and Deb aboard Honey Moon.

4/16/99 Fri       Old Bahama Bay, Grand Bahama Returned to OBB aboard Honey Moon along with Deb, Katreena, Honey and a new washing machine for LM.
4/17/99 Sat         Play day...
4/18/99 Sun         Katreena returns to Florida aboard Honey Moon with Doug & Deb. Honey and I remain to work on LM.

5/6/99 Thu       Old Bahama Bay, Grand Bahama Katreena flies in to join Honey and I for a honeymoon cruise.
5/7/99 Fri         Just chillin' out. 5/8/99
5/8/99 Sat 47.9 8.0 6.0 Great Sale Cay, Bahamas Departed with Vimsong, Reg Smith's Beneteau 40, along with his girlfriend Ginna and her dad, HB. Several other monohulls followed. Called back soundings to let everyone know the passage was sound. Anchored in peaceful Great Sale Cay. Dingied Honey ashore for some potty time. Otherwise, nothing here. All of us had dinner aboard Vimsong: Ginna's fabulous lamb stew. 5/9/99
5/9/99 Sun 43.5 7.0 6.2 Spanish Cay, Abacos, Bahamas Tight fit in their marina, but successful. Beautiful private cay with gorgeous plantings. We explored the island and dined on steaks aboard L. Moon. 5/10/99
5/10/99 Mon 12.0 2.0 6.0 Manjack Cay, Abacos, Bahamas Nice sail down Abaco Sound. Anchored inside Manjack (Nunjack) Cay. All of us, including Honey, dingied into a quiet mangrove lagoon. Lots of sea life and birds, and a hidden bay with a couple of boats that challenge the imagination on how they got there. Dinner aboard Vimsong: great salmon. 5/11/99
5/11/99 Tue 4.8 0.8 6.4 Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, Bahamas Anchored in White Bay. Reg and I dinghied back to Manjack so he could try some bonefishing. Saw some but no strikes. Had cocktails ashore at the Green Turtle Club. Dinner aboard L. Moon: Cajun chicken.
5/12/99 Wed         Dingied to New Plymouth and explored the quaint town, with its nice museum. Ginna baked chicken aboard Vimsong 5/13/99
5/13/99 Thu 17.8 2.8 6.5 Treasure Cay, Great Abaco, Bahamas Vimsong headed back and we headed on. Took a mooring in the tiny little lagoon outside the Treasure Cay Resort. Had lunch ashore and explored the grounds. Burgers aboard.
5/14/99 Fri         Took Honey to their beautiful beach. She romped in and out of the surf and had a great time. Windless night and boats drifted precariously close to each other but no contact. 5/15/99
5/15/99 Sat 15.4 2.5 6.2 Marsh Harbour, Great Abaco, Bahamas Anchored inside the busiest port in the Abacos. Crowded with cruising boats made for difficulty in picking a spot. But we found a nice location close to all. Had a great buffet steak and seafood dinner at the Jib Room.
5/16/99 Sun         Rented a scooter and cruised down to Pete's Pub at Little Harbour and on to the settlement at Cherokee Sound. The former is the digs of a local sculptor whose son still runs the gallery and pub. Great atmosphere. The latter is a neat, clean and unique fishing community on a large, shallow sound. Katreena's butt hurts but she had a great time. 5/17/99
5/17/99 Mon 5.7 0.9 6.7 Man o'War Cay, Abacos, Bahamas Anchored inside the south bay of a very historic isle. British loyalists fled here during the American Revolution and set up shop. There's still boatbuilding and other fine crafts. And no booze anywhere. What a boring place. 5/18/99
5/18/99 Tue 7.7 1.3 6.2 Great Guana Cay, Abacos, Bahamas Fun island with lots of character. And lots of dogs, which Honey wants to chase off. Had a great lunch at Nippers (named after the owner's two little pups). Coconut Conch. Mmmm. With a spectacular view of the Atlantic.
5/19/99 Wed         Lazy day in paradise. 5/20/99
5/20/99 Thu 32.5 5.3 6.1 Crab Cay, Little Abaco, Bahamas Starting the journey home. Anchored off of desolate Crab Cay. Didn't bother going ashore. 5/21/99
5/21/99 Fri 42.8 6.7 6.4 Great Sale Cay, Bahamas Overnight anchorage at Great Sale to break up the journey. Fewer boats at anchor and nice and quiet. 5/22/99
5/22/99 Sat 47.9 8.0 6.0 Old Bahama Bay, Grand Bahama Lost a belt on the starboard engine so we limped back to the marina. Got there safe and sound and had dinner with Reg.
5/23/99 Sun         Clean up time.
5/24/99 Mon         Started the long, involved process of getting a marriage license and finding a minister. Reg helped with the latter.
5/29/99 Sat         Doug and Deb cruised Honey Moon over to join us. Tomorrow's the big day. Joined a crazy dock party with all the sportfisherman and their nieces. Honey begged and entertained.
5/30/99 Sun         Wedding Day! Nice ceremony from Father Lightbourne with Doug, Deb, Reg and Ginna in attendance, followed by lunch of conch at the Harbour House. Champagne and celebration back aboard L. Moon. Katreena gets carried across the threshold (into the main salon).
5/31/99 Mon         The newlyweds head back to Florida aboard Honey Moon. Appropriate.

7/7/99 Sat         Attempted to return to LM aboard Honey Moon with Doug, Deb, David, Glenna and Katreena but rough seas and engine trouble ended that voyage early.
7/8/99 Sun       Old Bahama Bay, Grand Bahama Katreena and Patrick fly to Freeport, rent a car and return to LM. Bringing her back to Florida to haul for hurricane season. 7/11/99
7/11/99 Wed 72.0 11.0 6.5 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Arrived at Las Olas Marina in prep for haul out. 7/13/99
7/13/99 Fri 4.0 1.2 3.5   Cruised up the New River to Lauderdale Marine Center for annual haulout. Did lots of bottom work, installed generator shroud, etc. Hurricane Floyd came Sept. 14 but swung north just before making landfall. It was a bad one and we were very lucky. 10/15/99

10/15/99 Fri 4.0 1.2 3.5 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Splashed LM and cruised to Las Olas Marina. Brother Mike and missy Sue flying in from Washingon State for a cruise to the Keys.
10/16/99 Sat         Mike and Sue arrived safely and had a chance to explore Lauderdale shops, restaurants and, of course, the wonderful beach. 10/17/99
10/17/99 Sun 55.5 9.2 6.1 Pumpkin Key, Florida Keys Departed early for a long sail. Headed outside (in the Atlantic) for the voyage south. Mike is proving to be the expert fisherman, including a nice dolphin in his catch. Sue got a bit queasy due to rough seas but the weather was magnificent and she hung in there. Came inside through the Biscayne Channel by Stiltsville. Water calmed down and Sue began to feel much better. Sailed down Biscayne Bay and anchored off little, private Pumpkin Key for a quiet night and barbeque. 10/18/99
10/18/99 Mon 27.1 5.0 5.4 Plantation Key, Florida Keys An early departure, all is calm. An hour later Katreena reaches me on the cellphone and tells me a hurricane has snuck up on us…with no warning. Found available dockage at Plantation Key Marina and hustled for safe haven. Squalls started pounding us and I could barely see to dock us. Once safely laced in Katreena came and got us and brought us to the Keys house. None too soon...Hurricane Irene hit, killed power and we settled in for a quiet night. Hooked my little portable TV/VCR to my portable battery charger and we watched The Abyss, followed by dice games and reading by candlelight.
10/19/00 Tue         Hurricane Irene dies down but everything pretty soaked. Not much use in going anywhere for awhile. 10/20/99
10/20/99 Wed 29.8 4.8 6.3 Grassy Key, Florida Keys Katreena dropped Mike and I off at the Marina and we brought L. Moon to the house for provisioning. Beautiful day. Loaded up the ladies and the pups and headed down island.
10/20/99   32.4 5.3 6.2 Newfound Harbor, Ramrod Key Tucked into a shallow but quiet and secluded bay. Dined aboard and generally did nothing. 10/21/99
10/21/99 Thu 30.5 5.0 6.1 Key West, Florida Keys Pleasant sail, dodging fishtraps, and tucked into the Hilton Marina. Great slip and top-notch service. Everything is walking distance so the exploring has begun. Lots of shopping, dining and grog. 10/24/99
10/24/99 Sun 20.9 3.3 6.3 Johnston Key, Florida Keys Shallow water sail to the inside of the Keys to remote spots. Hurricane scared all the fish someplace so Mike is a frustrated fisherman. Anchored as far in as we dare go and Mike and I tried some snorkeling but there was much happening. Nice evening on the hook. 10/25/99
10/25/99 Mon 40.7 6.7 6.1 Key Colony Beach, Florida Keys Home again.

Key Colony Beach, Florida Keys Departure Port 12/23/99
12/23/99 Thu 61.7 9.8 6.3 Pumpkin Key, Florida Keys Sailed north with Dad, Katreena, Shadow and Honey. Pleasant evening anchored off Pumpkin Key. Christmas lights were bright on the island, evening clear. 12/24/99
12/24/99 Fri 31.4 5.2 6.1 Miami Beach, Florida Christmas Eve. Pleasant, though windy, day. Smoke was rising from exhaust as we started out the Biscayne Channel. Got a good look at Stiltsville before I turned back in search of safe haven. Space available at Miami Beach Marina, but heavy side winds, astern current and tight quarters made for a challenging docking maneuver. Success, despite the challenges.
12/15/99 Sat         Merry Christmas! Quiet day aboard. 12/26/99
12/26/99 Sun 25.2 4.0 6.3 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Found a nice slip in the canal at the Best Western Marina Inn outside the 17th Street Causeway. No one there to assist so tied up in only available spot. Nice stroll and dinner ashore. 12/27/99
12/27/99 Mon 48.8 7.3 6.7 West Palm Beach, Florida Long, but uneventful sail to Palm Harbour Marina. Another tight but fine slip right off Climatis Street. Another nice stroll and dinner ashore. Great area for walking the pups.
12/28/99 Tue         Just hangin' out. 12/29/99
12/29/99 Wed 37.4 6.0 6.2 Jensen Beach, Florida Fine sail north. Tricky entry channel at St. Lucie but no mishaps. Snug into home for the next few months at Nettles Island Marina on Hutchinson Island.
12/31/99 Fri         Happy New Year's Eve aboard LM with Doug and Deb joining for the festivities.
